Prof. Samara Smith

Samara Smith is a documentary media practitioner and an Assistant Professor of video and new media at SUNY College at Old Westbury. Her site-specific, documentary projects in and about public space have been featured at the Hammer Museum in LA and at the Conflux Festival in NYC. Samara has over a decade of documentary film experience with credits on many award-winning films. She holds an MFA in Integrated Media Arts from Hunter College.



Prof. Laura Chipley

Laura Chipley is an interdisciplinary media-maker and Assistant Professor of Media and Communications at SUNY College at Old Westbury. Her projects include ‘Deep Black Sea’ – an experimental documentary series that chronicles the aftermath of oil spills around the world, and ‘The Newtown Creek Armada’ – an interactive boat pond created in a New York Superfund site. Laura’s work has screened internationally and has been featured by The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, Wired Magazine and Boing Boing.

Edward Yanni
Digital Media Intern (present)

Edward “Teddy” Yanni is a Media and Communications student and aspiring documentarian. He is the noticeable host of the “Steady Bongo” show at Old Westbury Web Radio Station who also enjoys applying creative ideas to videography. He is one of the newest additions to the Collaborative Media Center.




Moses Nunez Jr.
Digital Media Fellow (present)

Moses Nunez Jr. is a Media & Communications major and in my senior year. Previously interned at CNBC and SB Nation. Received Associates Degree at Suffolk Community College and will be receiving Bachelor’s Degree May 2017. Nunez has joined CMC to hone his skills as an editor while giving students the opportunity to learn how to edit for themselves to gain an advantage in the workplace.




T’Khari Fisher

T’Khari Fisher is currently a senior at SUNY College at Old Westbury where he is pursuing a B.A. in Media and Communications. He is studying media arts and hopes to pursue a career in filmmaking/editing. He is a former News Director at Old Westbury Web Radio, a member for Old Westbury TV, and is an Honors College Student. He has produced some works in both video production and new media.



Reed Surdovel
Digital Media Fellow (present)

Reed Surdovlel is a media and communications student in his senior year. He is a transfer student from SUNY Maritime who came to Old Westbury to study production. Reed is primarily focused is in videography and post-production. He is available for tutoring students on how to edit projects as well as offer advice for filming.




Shatiese Wilson

Shatiese Wilson is a senior working towards her B.A in Media and communications at SUNY College at Old Westbury . Shatiese plans on combining her passion for beauty, fashion, and modeling with the skills she has learned in her media classes in order to build her own brand. Shatiese’s future career goals include Modeling, TV Hosting, Video production (Editing) and Public Relations.



Valerie Amengual
Digital Media Intern (present)

Valerie Amengual is currently a senior at SUNY Old Westbury earning her degree in Media and Communications in hopes to one day work field of television/movie production. She has had past experience with production under the guidance of Laura Chipley in her Advance TV Studio Production class as well as her Video Production class where she created a mini documentary on paranormal witnessing.

Zach Feldman is a Media and Communications major at SUNY Old Westbury. Zach has won many awards for his Film, Radio and TV work including the MSG Varsity V Award judged by the National Academy of Arts and Televisions of New York. Currently, Zach is an on air personality and assistant filmmaker for 106.1 BLI and 102.3 WBAB. Zach has worked with companies from New York 1 News, WWE, Howard Stern Show and more.

Avery Williams recently graduated with a B.A. in Media and Communications from SUNY Old Westbury. She is currently working towards her goal of being an aspiring television producer and videographer. She has gained valuable skills as a Digital Media Fellow for CMC, a communications intern for the NYC Department of Education, and an intern at Old Westbury Television. She has also produced a promotional video for a non-profit on Long Island that currently uses the video for recruitment.


Jenna Barbone
Digital Media Fellow (2015-2016)

Jenna is currently a freshmen at SUNY College at Old Westbury, pursuing her B.A in Media and Communications. During her first semester she was part of OWTV as a host and reporter. She was a writer and section editor for her high school newspaper; and a writer for a local online paper. She was involved in Advanced Film in high school and hopes to improve her talents as a writer, journalist, reporter, and film maker here at Old Westbury.


Joselyn Redrovan
Digital Media Fellow (2016)

Joselyn Redrovan is a Media and Communications major at SUNY Old Westbury. Joselyn wants to become a news reporter, writer, and activist on issues such as immigration, global warming, pay inequality and poverty.  In the future, she hopes to work for the television network Univision as a writer or reporter.




Julia Sorto
Digital Media Fellow (2015-2016)

Julia Sorto is in her senior year at SUNY Old Westbury studying Media & Communications. Julia has always had an interest in film and literature and has recently developed an interest in journalistic storytelling. She has a strong interest in women’s rights, racial issues, immigration and social injustice. Julia hopes to develop skills in video production and photography this year. Julia’s future aspirations are to work for a company similar to Vice.

Michelle Purpura graduated with honors from SUNY College at Old Westbury with a B.A. in Media and Communications. Currently, Michelle is a freelance camera operator and video editor for her company Hand to Heart Productions. She has produced, filmed, and edited her own videos.



Rigo Garay
Digital Media Fellow (2013 – 2015)

Rigo Garay is a media and communications major at SUNY College at Old Westbury. Garay has an interest for film and a profound love for the horror genre. He has interned for Academy Award winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple, and is currently working for iconic horror filmmaker Larry Fessenden. He has written and directed his own short comedic horror films and is currently pursuing his goal in directing his own feature length film.



Titi Marquis
Digital Media Fellow (2015)

Titi Marquis is a senior at SUNY College at Old Westbury and her major is Communications and Media. She is apart of the CMC as an intern and is collaborating with other departments in the school such as the Women’s Center on projects. Titi’s future aspirations is to use her degree to  communicate knowledge and social change on issues that are domestic and global using communications and media as the medium such as video, broadcasting, social media and new media etc.



 Kerrianne Allen

Kerrianne Allen, a senior here at SUNY Old Westbury, is interested in how media is changing human interactions.  After graduating from Old Westbury, Ms. Allen plans to attend medical school to fulfill her lifelong goal of becoming a neonatologist.





D’andre Legrand

D’andre Legrand is a freshman Media & Communications Major at SUNY Old Westbury. He hopes to become well rounded in all aspects of media. D’andre is a member of Old Westbury’s TV club, and hopes to one day get into the business of filmmaking and music.

Jennifer Robinson is a senior at SUNY old Westbury. She is studying media communications and hopes to work in the film and television field. In her spare time she enjoys watching documentaries and writing.

Tessa Stefanello
Digital Media Fellow (2014)

Tessa Stefanello is currently a senior at the SUNY College at Old Westbury where she is pursuing her BA in Media and Communications. She has served as the News Director at the Old Westbury Web Radio station for 2 years, and has interned for the Long Island Herald as well as Channel 7 Eyewitness News’ Investigative Unit. Her passion is in camera work, editing and scriptwriting.




Mercedes Bohaty

SUNY Old Westbury Alumni Mercedes Bohaty graduated in 2011 with a BA in Media and Communications. Mercedes has worked with a as an assistant editor on short informative video segments and documentary films. In her spare time, Mercedes enjoys creating short narrative films and music videos.





Harryana Walker
Digital Media Fellow (2013-2014)

Harryana Walker is a freelance videographer and journalist from Brooklyn, New York. Walker’s influences are culture, women and social injustice. As a documentarian, Harryana covers issues such as police brutality, gender inequality, misrepresentations of minority groups and homelessness. All of her work can be found on her blog Urban Minority Report.







Taja Young
Digital Media Fellow (2013-2014)

Taja Young is currently a Senior at SUNY Old Westbury where she is pursuing her B.A. in Media Studies. Her passion lies in camera work, editing, and producing. She has created numerous news packages, webisodes, and has been an editor for Living On Long Island, broadcasted on Public Access TV.
